“A brilliant script that’s fresh, relatable and laugh-out-loud funny.”

— Variety

Can sisters Baneatta and Beverly bury their father without killing each other? In this celebration of Black joy, grief, and healing, an extended family returns to St. Luke’s Church to inter Bernard Jenkins, their patriarch. Family stressors abound as Beverly shows up to the chapel with her “blessings” on display, Baneatta’s son brings his neurotic Jewish boyfriend, and Beverly’s nosy daughter keeps asking questions no one wants to answer. Meanwhile, Baneatta’s husband, Reginald, tries to keep the peace, but when a shocking family secret reveals itself at the pulpit, the two sisters are faced with a truth that could either heal or break them. Chicken & Biscuits is a touching and often hilarious ode to the people in our lives we can’t choose.

Christiana Thompson
(La’Trice Franklin)

I am a native of South Jersey, born and raised here! I went to school for Journalism and Media Studies at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. I graduated in 2023, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree. Although I’ve always wanted to be a thespian, I chose the path of gymnastics in my early years. I didn’t have the means to do both, considering how demanding my sport was, but I have zero regrets in my decisions. In my freshman year of college, I met Derrell Lawrence (writer and actor). He gave me the chance to be in my first play, Love Me To Death, and I fell IN LOVE with acting. Since then, I have been in another play written by him, The Funeral, and recently finished my third production The Funeral I & II. Under the direction of Damien Wallace and written by Derrell Lawrence. I am and will be forever grateful for the opportunities. In the future, I see myself working on Broadway and Film.
