On a cold Friday evening last February, we celebrated “Neighborhood Night” at our production of my play “Tennessee’s Final Curtain”. During this and every production we invite thirty of our neighbors from Waterfront South to be our guests in the audience one evening, free of charge. On this particular evening came the moment that truly summed up why South Camden Theatre Company and the Waterfront South Theatre volunteers work so hard.
I walked over to two women from the neighborhood who had just seen my play and asked them, “Did you enjoy the play?” One of the ladies replied, “We love everything here.” After that, her companion spoke up and said, “This theater makes Camden so much more beautiful.”
When you support our theatre and donate to SCTC you become a part of so many things. You help to bring rarely produced, classic American theatre to our stage. You become a part of one of the only professional theatre companies in southern New Jersey with Philadelphia Inquirer reviews like this one, “It’s an edge-of-the-seat ride, one of the most exciting performances I've seen.” You also help to bring new, world-premier productions to our state-of-the-art, ninety-six seat theatre. But, most importantly, to quote our neighbor, you are “making Camden more beautiful”.
When you make a donation to SCTC during this annual appeal you are helping to transform Camden by bring the corner of Fourth and Jasper alive through art. As we’ve always said, ART WILL SAVE US. Please know that your gift is not only a gift to the Theatre Company to help make ends meet, but it is also a gift to the residents of Camden who are working hard to overcome so much adversity.
Please, take a moment right now and help us reach our 2013 goal of $13,000. If each person who opens this letter donates $25, $50 or $100, we will be well on our way. If you can donate more, we would certainly appreciate it. When you donate we will prominently display your name in our program and in the lobby of our beautiful theatre.
Your gift in any amount is priceless to us. We cannot survive without your support. Please take a moment right now to complete the attached donation form and return it to us in the enclosed envelope.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. May you have the most wonderful of holiday seasons!
Sincerely,
Joseph M. Paprzycki
Producing Artistic Director
Many employers will match your donations to non-profit corporations and we will be happy to provide you the necessary documentation upon request. We currently have matching donations from anyone who is employed by the American Express, Mobil and Subaru Corporations.
The response to the Heart of Camden's TAKE-A-SEAT campaign has been incredible. For a donation of $1,000 you can name a seat in honor or in memory of anyone you choose. There are less than 30 seats available. Please note that money raised goes to Heart of Camden's to defray cost overruns in the building of Waterfront South Theatre.
Although the new Waterfront South Theatre appears complete there is still much to be done to complete the stage area. We are hoping to purchase additional rigging, black out curtains, risers and backdrops to help enhance the quality of your theatre experience. Your donation of $500 or more will go a long way in helping us obtain the items needed to complete the stage.
Each donation of $250.00 or more will help to defray the cost of our new lighting system that brings our stage to life. With your help we can retire the loan we needed to take out to purchase this state-of-the-art system.
With a donation in any amount, you'll become a member of "Walt's Café Club". This club honors the original owner of Walt's Cafe, and our Producing Artistic Director's grandfather, Walt Evanuk.
If you prefer to send a check, please make it payable to "South Camden Theatre Company, Inc" and mail it to South Camden Theatre Company, Waterfront South Theatre, 400 Jasper Street, Camden, NJ 08104. All donations will be acknowledged in writing and are greatly appreciated. We will make every effort to apply your donation to the area you've specified. But, please note that at times we will need to use donations to cover expenses incurred in running the theatre.
