This Pulitzer Prize winning play, written by Jason Miller, shows us the 20th reunion of the 1952 Pennsylvania High School Basketball championship held at the now retired coach's house. The play looks at how the team is now affected by life, politics, infidelity and betrayal and shows coach's desperate attempt to keep his "boys" playing as a team, now in their adult lives. The production features Barrymore Award winner William Rahill (Member, "Best Ensemble" 2007). That Championship Season has also received a Tony Award and Drama Desk Award.
For those not familiar with Jason Miller, you will likely remember him as “Father Karras” in “The Exorcist”, for which he received an Academy Award nomination. Jason was also a huge Notre Dame fan and starred in the movie "Rudy" as Ara Parsegian taking only scale salary just so he could stand on the football field of Notre Dame! Before all of that, Jason was a playwright. The last time Bill and I (Joe Paprzycki) saw Jason (before he died in 2004), I told him that someday there would be a theatre in Camden and that I would produce his play. His comment was “Thanks...I need the royalties!”.
